  • ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH WORKS FOR A CAUSE
    The staff and students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, extended a helping hand to SOS, a Non-Govt., voluntary organization providing family environment and avenues to all round development of orphan children by making a cash contribution of Rs. 4,08,300/- on 25 January 2010. The cash collected was presented to Ms. Deeksha Joshi, Deputy Area Coordinator, SOS, in a gala Republic Day celebration organized in the school premises. The SOS representatives appreciated the school's active participation in SOS and also presented mementos to Himanshi (III-E), Meher (I-I) and Aneesh (II-D) who were the top three student collectors.

  • WALK TOWARDS A HEALTHY FUTURE
    Spreading awareness about DiabetesWe, in association with 'Hriday Shan', an NGO, organized a 'walk' on 11 November 2009 to bring about awareness amongst common people about 'Diabetes'.

    Around 100 children of classes VII and VIII participated in the walk alongwith their mothers.

    Students went to Ambica Vihar, Guru Harkishan Nagar and Sunder Vihar carrying banners about Diabetes and disseminating information about the disease and how it can be controlled and prevented.




  • 'SAVE YAMUNA' PROJECT TAKEN UP BY STUDENTS
    On 22 September 2009 OUR students undertook 'Save Yamuna' project in which they had to sensitize the citizens of Delhi about the way the river Yamuna is being polluted. Students, who wore jackets that had the message - 'Save Yamuna' printed on them, held huge banners and stood by the roadside to enable people to read the message.

    Students spread awareness about preserving the YamunaIt was quite a busy road with heavy traffic, but the people slowed down and read the banners. The children were given a good talk about Yamuna by Mr. Manoj Mishra, who told them that except during monsoons, Yamuna always had the sewage water fed to it by 22 drains of Delhi, which is circulated again and again by the Jal Board. Children were taken to the Nizamuddin Bridge to see the plight of the Yamuna.

    On the bridge, there were posters which requested people not to throw waste in the Yamuna. Overall it was an experience, which made them realize the callousness of human beings towards the river Yamuna - the Lifeline of Delhi.






  • WE EXTEND A HELPING HAND
    The staff and students contributed 450 meters of new cotton cloth to the NGO GOONJ working for the underprivileged sections of society, as part of their 'Joy of Giving' initiative on 5 September 2009. They also contributed more than 20 sacks of used clothing and stationery items.

    The following students of Classes V and VI accompanied by Ms. Mamta Parashar attended Pratibimb, an annual school to school interactive session organized by the N.G.O Goonj at National Bal Bhawan on 22 April 2009.

    In 'Pratibimb' the students of our school interacted with the underpriviliged rural children and understood their problem.

    Twelve sacks of old clothes and stationery were given to the underpriviliged.
  • ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH CELEBRATED LOHRI WITH A PURPOSE

    Class VII students celebrating 'Lohri' Its festival time for Class VII - Bhangra performed The importanceof 'Pongal Pannai' being exhibited
    On 13 January 2009, Lohri, Pongal and Makar Sankranti were celebrated with fervour. The occasion was graced by the Chairman Mr. T. P. Aggarwal and Guest of Honour Mr. Harpreet Singh, Director, SOS. The performance area for the show 'Mattu Pongal' - worshipping the Cowwas decorated with an ethnic taste depicting the villages of Tamil Nadu and Punjab. The four days of Pongal were explained with different scenes followed by the Pongal Dance. After a talk about Mr. Aggarwal, the Chairman presenting the cheque to Mr. Harpreet Singh, SOSMakar Sankranti, the students sang a Punjabi folk song followed by vibrant Bhangra. The Bonfire was lit, followed by a small speech by the Principal and the Guest of Honour. It was indeed a day of celebration as it culminated with the handing over of a cheque of Rs. 3,30,725/- as a contribution by the staff and the students. We believe that working for society is an integral part of all celebrations and our association with SOS, a non-government, voluntary organization working for welfare of orphan children has been a long and fruitful one. It was a joint effort of all but the following students made a mark by contributing whole heartedly.

  • WE REMEMBER MAHATMA GANDHI
    To commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation, Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated in our school on 1-10-2008. His inspirational ideologies and principles of life were highlighted in the speeches delivered by the students. The speeches motivated the students to follow the path of truth and non-violence.

  • WORKING FOR SOCIETY
    Abraham Lincoln had said, "With malieu towards one; with charity for all". This is the maxim our school believes in. So, we work together to inculcate in our students the love for society and the need to give back to the less fortunate ones in our little way. We celebrated 'Children's day' in the right spirit by gifting warmers to the children of 'Angles', a small initiative run in the slum areas of Vikas Puri, on that special day turning it even more special for them.

  • AWAKENING
    Since it is time to awaken the society towards the threat AIDS poses, an NGO, Mission organised an event - 'Awakening 2008', where our students participated in an essay writing and singing competition. It was an enriching experience as the students not only competed, but took part in an interactive e session too in which they learnt the need to spread awareness and inculcate values of acceptance of AIDS victims. They won many prizes too.

  • WORK FOR A SOCIAL CAUSE
    The Management and students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, gifted the body warmers to the children of 'Angles', a small initiative run in the slum areas of Vikas Puri, on the occasion of Children's Day.

  • ST. MARK'S SCHOOL MEERA BAGH EXTENDS A HELPING HAND
    St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, extended a helping hand to the victims of Bihar flood. The fury of the Kosy river rendered about 3 million people homeless. An urgent appeal was made to the St. Mark's family through Goonj, an NGO that works for the underprivileged sections of society for providing succour in form of rations for people in flood ravaged Bihar. Within a short span of 2 days, the school was able to collect 1435 kg of rice, 845 kg of pulses and approx. Rs. 30,000/- in cash for disaster affected people.

  • ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH WORKS FOR A CAUSE
    A group of students of classes XI and XII of  St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, alongwith teachers
    Ms. M. Parashar and Ms. S. Malik visited 'Angels' a small initiative run in the slum areas of Vikas Puri by  Mr. Sylvester. Angels focuses on curricular as well as extra-curricular development of about 60 slum children and makes the children aware about basic hygiene practices, academics, personality development and trains the youngsters in soccer. Our students  posed a myriad of questions to Mr. Sylvester regarding the problems he faced and the requirements of the students. The young members of Angels greeted us with love and even presented a small cultural programme. Students of St. Mark's presented eco-friendly bags and chocolates and promised to provide all help to them. A drive has already taken off to help these less fortunate children. 

  • WORKING FOR A NOBLE CAUSE
    A two days interactive programme was held on 28 and 29 August by Goonj, an NGO working for underprivileged children in St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh. It was attended by the students of Class V. A special sheet was given to each student to know their views  about the village students.
    Mr. Anshu Gupta, founder of Goonj explained to them the problems and needs of the village students.

    This was followed by a documentary film that showed the interaction of village students with  urban students. It motivated our students to help their rural fellow  students by donating clothes,  stationery items and inspiring them to  sponsor mats, skipping ropes, balls, cards, story books, writing pads, etc developed by Goonj out of waste cloth/paper. A competition was also organized to write  letters to  friends in a villages in the form of a poem, drawing or  message.  

  • LIFE BEYOND DYSLEXIA
    Dyslexia -not such a great problem that we can't deal with!' That was the theme of the symposium attended by Ms. M. Mehta and Ms. B. Taneja at the Indian Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodi Road on 6.2.2008 organised by the Times of India in association with Delhi Learning Disabilities Association and Orkids.
    The Guest of Honour was Smt. Renuka Chowdhury, Hon'ble Minister of State for Woman and Child Development, along with the Panelists - Mr. Amol Gupta and Ms. Deepa Bhatia  of the film -
    'Taare Zameen Par' the  special invitees Ms. Daman Duggal, Principal of Vivek High School, Chandigarh, Dr. Shelja Sen, Clinical Psychologist, Sitaram Bhatia Institute of Science  and Research. Ms. Kate Currawalla, President, Maharashtra Dyslexia Association. Ms. Geet Oberoi, Founder President, Orkids Multidisciplinary Clinic and Special Guest Mr. Susmit Sen, Founder Member composer and Lead Guitarist of Indian Ocean, a Dyslexic. All shared their views on dyslexic children and how different sources like family, peers, school, professionals can affect these children. Also certain relaxations provided by CBSE and also National Institute of Open Schooling were discussed. Over all it was a very good experience. At the same time it was an eye-opener too to many different facilities introduced which can be introduced at the school level eg. combination of oral and written examinations, option of NIOS along with regular school etc.
        
  • THE TRADITION OF SHARING AND CARING CONTINUES IN ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH
    The zealous volunteers of 'Goonj' of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, yet again endeavoured to spread the festive cheer among the poor and needy by sending contributions comprising woollen clothing in 20 sacks to Goonj, an NGO working for poor and destitute people all over India.  It was a small step of providing them some relief and comfort during the approaching winter.
       
  • 'GOONJ' RESOUNDS YET AGAIN AT ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH 
    The St. Mark's Meera Bagh, family extended a helping hand to Goonj, an NGO working for poor and destitute people all over India, by contributing 25 sacks and 4 cartons of material comprising clothes, stationery items, water bottles for our less fortunate rural counterparts. Amen to the feeling of empathy and love which motivates the SMS family  - students, faculty and management alike.

    A group of students of class VIII attended
    'Pratibimb' a rural urban interface event organized by Goonj, on 22.4.2008 at Bapu Samaj Seva Kendra. The students of the school presented a small skit highlighting the importance of literacy and 'Right to Education for All'. They also spoke about a new empowered India led by educated Indian. The students interacted with a number of rural children from different parts of India and satiated their curiosity with regards to problems faced by these rural children.
      
  • WORKS FOR A CAUSE
    42 students of classes V and VI of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, visited SOS Village at Bawana on 12th April 2008. They were accompanied by their teachers Ms. S. Malik and Ms. M. Parashar. They  interacted with the SOS co-ordinators to know how orphan children  come to the SOS village and the scope for their education, career and marriage prospects as well as their  integration into society as confident and self reliant individuals. The students visited the family homes to get a clear insight into the lives of these children. They were duly impressed by the simplicity and neatness of these homes which had all necessary amenities. They were moved by the family bonding between children and their surrogate mothers.
      
  • ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH WORKS FOR A CAUSE
    In April 2008, a contribution of books and notebooks was made by students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera We work for a social cause - Students with the inmates of Prerna Niketan SanghBagh,  , to Prerna Niketan Sangh, an NGO which looks after physically challenged children belonging to poor strata of society.

    A group of 15 students of Class IX visited the
    'Personality Development Camp' for physically challenged children on 13th May 2008. This was organized by the NGO Prerna Niketan Sangh. The students accompanied by their teachers, Ms.  M .Parashar and Ms. S. Malik organized a series of activities like art competitions as well as games like Antakshri & Passing the Parcel. The students presented all the children at the camp with hand made cards with inspiring quotation & small presents like pencil boxes, crayons & steel Tiffin boxes. The students also had a fruitful interactive session with children and were very impressed with their positive outlook and their desire to succeed despite the odds. At the end of the visit the students redeemed their pledge to stregthen the ties between St. Mark's and Prerna Niketan.
