STUDENTS OF ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH ATTEND GREEN 2010
Eco Club members of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended 'Green 2010'. Various activities were organized by the 'i-dream', an NGO working towards environment. Members of middle section participated in 'Adopt Green Energy Drive' for which they displayed placards related to green lifestyle habits and its importance, at District Centre, Janakpuri on 15 January 2010.

On 23 January 2010, Painting / Cartoon Contest was organized to sensitize students about Common Wealth Games. The contest was held in two groups at Dilli Haat, Netaji Subash Place. Danish of St. Mark's Meera Bagh, bagged the consolation prize in the second group (IX - XII) and certificate for the same was given on 25 January 2010 at Aadharshila Vidyapeeth School.
 
ST. MARK'S STUDENTS ATTEND ECO CLUB MEET
The Eco Club students of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended the Annual Eco Club Meet organized by the Department of Environment, Govt. of NCT of Delhi on 12 January 2010. An exhibition of Eco Friendly products prepared by Eco Club Schools as well as NGOs was put up during the meet. Students visited all the stalls and gained knowledge. They got an exposure to new concepts like E-Waste Management, Zero Waste, Global Warming, etc.
 
THE ECO CLUB IN ACTION
All the people entrusted with cleaning and maintaining the school assembled to discuss the problems that they were facing in collection of waste. There problems were discussed with the Eco Club incharges. As we are aiming for “Zero Waste”, they were oriented on how to go about segregating the waste in the school.

“An Environment Club Meet was organized by Snow Leopard Eco Club on 31 October 2009. Several schools from the nearby areas attended this meet. As the lead Eco Club School, our Eco Club members showed the other member schools various activities carried out throughout the academic year like tree plantation, anti cracker driver, playing Holi with natural colours, recycling with waste paper, recycling waste with the help of roly poly, etc. A documentary on Environment was also shown. The student delegation that had gone to Denmark, presented a synopsis of what exactly they had done and discussed their future plans on how to save the environment. Mr. Saurabh Bardhan from Green Bandhu gave an insight on technology on Waste Management and Grey Water Treatment which was followed by a healthy discussion on how to actually manage waste in our society.

40 students from the Eco Club visited India Habitat Centre and watched documentary films on conversation of wild life, going green and creating best from waste. The students learned many techniques and realized that creating awareness to save the environment is the need of the hour.
 
WE GO GREEN THIS DIWALI AND SAY NO TO CRACKERS

Let's go green at Diwali - Click to EnlargeOur school is eco-friendly and is really concerned about the climatic changes taking place. So, we decided to go green this Diwali and on 13 October 2009 a group of students carried out an anti-cracker rally at cross road to Meera Bagh to encourage people not to burst crackers. The students on motivating the people not to use cellophane paper to pack gifts and sweets and to gift saplings instead. Students holding banners and posters distributed pamphlets to people. People appreciated the efforts of the students.


Students of the ‘Snow Leopard Eco Club’ campaigned in the neighbouring areas of GH9, GH14 and LIC Colony. They shouted slogan ‘Say NO to crackers and YES to Life’ and sang a song highlighting the harmful effects of crackers. In the same direction, a street play for students of Class VII was organized under the aegis of Jaiswal Cine International. It highlighted the negative effect of bursting crackers. The street play which was an amalgamation of songs, drum beats and actors wearing animal masks showed scared animals running helter skelter trying to escape the noise and air pollution caused. The theatre group of young talented artistes suggested better options of spreading joy and sharing our happiness with our less fortunate brethren.
 
ST. MARK'S, MEERA BAGH ATTENDS CLIMATE CAMP AT DENMARK
St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, has been a pioneer Eco School in the capital. The students of St. Mark's Meera Bagh, added yet another feather to their cap by attending a Climate Camp at Sonderborg, Denmark. Organized by Bright Green Youth from 8 August to 11 August as a prelude to COP 15 to be held in Copenhagen this December, the four day camp was a great learning experience for the fifteen students who were part of it. The students were grouped with students of other countries and had to create ideas to combat the deadly phenomenon 'Global Warming'. They had, then, got to innovate ways and means to implement their ideas. In their process of innovation they were assisted by engineers and officials from 'Siemens', 'Danfoss Universe' and 'The University of Denmark'. The youthful ideas would now be discussed in COP 15 when the political leaders and UN officials would meet later this year.

The opening ceremony of the camp was a proud moment for all St. Markians when Mani Makkar got the opportunity to be part of the 'Red Carpet' for the Crown Prince of Denmark. Garv Malik and Garvit Arora, two other students got the honour of interviewing Vibeke Vinter, Head of MS Action Aid, one of the cosponsors of the camp. By participating in the BGY camp, SMS has proved that it can make a big difference to the society and the environment.

NO PLASTICS FOR STUDENTS OF ST. MARK'S MEERA BAGH
The Green Ambassadors of 'Green Mark's Society' of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, visited the neighbourhood market and distributed paper bags made by them from old newspapers. They spoke to the shopkeepers about harmful effects of plastic bags and encouraged them to use paper bags instead. The shopkeepers readily accepted the bags and promised to use them in future.
 
ONLY PAPER BAGS FOR STUDENTS OF ST. MARK'S, MEERA BAGH
The 'Green Mark's Society' of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, on the occasion of Earth Day did its bit for the mother earth. The Green Ambassadors made 236 bags from old newspapers and promised to bring more hand made paper bags and encourage their usage.
 
ST. MARK'S, MEERA BAGH CELEBRATES 'EARTH DAY'
Earth Day was celebrated at St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh on 21 and 22 April 2009. All the new and existing members attended the first meeting of academic session 2009-2010 of the 'Eco-Club' where everybody took a pledge towards becoming green consumers and reducing their ecological footprints.

A small documentary on Environment and a PowerPoint presentation on Eco Club was shown to the children. Students of various classes participated in activities such as making book marks and best out of waste. They also made posters on Safe Diwali and Holi. They realized the importance of conservation of natural resources and the generation of minimum waste.
 
ECO CLUB WORKSHOP ATTENDED BY ST. MARK'S, MEERA BAGH
A workshop on Green Consumerism was organized by TARA on 13 April 2009 to sensitize teachers towards reduction of ecological footprints and thereby inculcating the same in the students to become green consumer. The Eco Club teachers of St. Mark's Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh, attended this programme. Discussions also included plans for the World Earth Day.
 
EARTH DAY CELEBRATED
On the occasion of Earth Day, the Inquisitive Club organized a quiz on 'Wildlife' for the classes of middle section to create an awareness amongst the students about the endangered species of the world, the national parks and sanctuaries in India and other animal facts. Since this power point quiz was conducted in the classrooms, 76 teams participated and all the other students enjoyed it as the audience. Bonus point were awarded to the houses of the winners. Besides these a number of other activities of classes VI to IX were conducted like 'Pen Holder Making from Waste' for class VI, 'Making Book Marks' for class VII, 'Folder Making' and 'Paper Bag Making' for classes VIII and Ix respectively.

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) organized a Poster Making competition on the theme of 'Use Public Transport' in which more than 50 schools participated. Siddharth Dagar, Rajeshwari Bansal and Kashish Goyal of class IX participated in this competition. Siddharth Dagar bagged the third prize and won a cash award of Rs. 1000/-. He received the award from the Hon'ble Minister of Environment, Mr. Namo Narain Meena, on 22 April 2008 on the occasion of Earth Day celebrations.
 
SNOW LEOPARD & ECO CLUB ANNUAL REPORT
Two Clubs - 'Snow Leopard' and 'Eco-Club' are working regularly and enthusiastically in our school to make students aware of the importance of their environment.

The year started with "Earth Day" celebrations on 20 April. There was a special assembly in which children took a pledge to protect and nurture the earth. Children took part in the competition "Best out of Waste" and made pencil and pen holders, book marks and folders. In July on "World Population Day" there was a "Poster Making Competition" for middle classes. There was a tree plantation programme also in which children took saplings to the nearby park and planted them. In September the children of the Eco Club went for a nature trail in CM's house. Lima Rosalind led the trail and explained very nicely about the local flora and fauna of our city.

Near Diwali Children led the Anti Cracker Campaign in which children took out a rally with big banners and shouted slogans against bursting crackers. There was a skit presented in the assembly for the students too.

Other than these annual events, the school is making recycled paper with waste. There is vernicomposting being done in the school. We segregate the biodegradable and non biodegradable waste. Each corridor has two different colour dustbins. One is green in colour for biodegradable and other one is red, for non biodegradable wastes. In addition to this some class room have kept potted plants also, to make students aware of the importance to green plants. Electricity is utilized in an efficient manner.
 
TREE PLANTATION
The students of Snow Leopard Eco Club along with their teachers Ms. R. Anand and Ms. M. Pathak, went on a Tree Plantation Drive in the month of August. They have adopted a park in Sunder Vihar where they had planted saplings in the previous years too. All the students enthusiastically participated spreading the message, 'Plant trees today for a Green Tomorrow'.
